Ballad of Jim

Back in '71, in early July
He said his final goodbye
With him his fury died
When he broke through to the other side

He wrote, he sang
But he drank too much

In a drunken rage, he yelled out to the world
"Wake up and listen to my words!"
"I'm the king of chaos, what's right is wrong"
"I'm a soldier of freedom, my weapon's my song."

He wrote, he sang
But he drank too much

In a time of sex and drugs, he arose
The pain that was hidden, he would expose
Chaos wasn't enough, he wanted more
Alone in his battle, he'd fight through the doors

He wrote, he sang
But he drank too much

Jail couldn't stop him, he broke out of that cage
The law couldn't muffle his rage
The world started spinning as he'd consume
But now he rests, sober in his tomb

Where are you?
Where have you gone?
Are you coming back?
To sing one more song
